A VRF system is a relatively new technology in the US that uses condensers that control several air handlers together..The term VRF -Variant Refrigerant Flow is named for the control of the amount of refrigerant flowing to each of the evaporators, enabling the use of many evaporators of differing capacities .

This allows for individualized comfort control and simultaneous heating and cooling in different zones with heat recovery.
